Google Maps has launched a real-time air quality feature just in time for winter, covering over 100 countries. Now, users can check the AQI (Air Quality Index) of their area or any other location directly in the app. This feature is updated every hour, providing real-time air quality insights.
The AQI is based on pollutant levels, with ratings from 0 to 500, making it easy to understand:
- 0-50 is ‘Good’
- 51-100 is ‘Satisfactory’
- 101-200 is ‘Moderate’
- 201-300 is ‘Poor’
- 301-400 is ‘Very Poor’
- 401-500 is ‘Severe’
Each AQI level is shown in different colors, from green for ‘Good’ to red for ‘Severe’. Google Maps also offers health tips based on air quality. For example, if AQI is high, it suggests staying indoors and using an air purifier, especially for sensitive groups.
To check your air quality, open Google Maps, tap the layers icon, and choose ‘Air Quality.’ This shows real-time AQI for your location. Planning a trip? You can also check the air quality of other areas the same way. This feature helps you stay informed about air quality wherever you go
